Wage Subsidy For Employers

In addition to the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements (BAC) wage subsidy, the federal government has introduced the Completing Apprenticeship Commencement wage subsidy (CAC).

The BAC subsidy was introduced to encourage employers to employ apprentices and trainees. Employers who hire an apprentice or trainee in the period between 5 October 2020 and 31 March 2022 are eligible for a subsidy of 50 per cent of the starting or resuming apprentice or trainee’s gross wage paid for 12 months following commencement, up to a maximum of $7,000 per quarter under the scheme.

Points to consider about CAC:

For the second and third years of an apprenticeship, employers of BAC-supported apprentices and trainees will transition to the time-limited CAC wage subsidy.

A maximum of $1,500 per apprentice will be provided to eligible employers under the CAC as a wage subsidy of ten per cent of wages paid to an apprentice or trainee during the second year of their apprenticeship.

In addition, employers eligible for a wage subsidy will receive an additional 5 per cent of wages paid to their apprentice or trainee during their apprenticeship in the third year, up to $750 per quarter per apprentice.
